فِي مِينَاءِ مَسْقَطَ سَفِينَةٌ كَبِيرَةٌ، اسْمُهَا «لُوغُوس هُوب». عَلَى السَّفِينَةِ مَكْتَبَةٌ، وَهِيَ أَكْبَرُ مَكْتَبَةٍ عَائِمَةٍ فِي الْعَالَمِ. وَفِيهَا أَكْثَرُ مِنْ خَمْسَةِ آلَافِ كِتَابٍ. يَعْمَلُ عَلَى السَّفِينَةِ مُتَطَوِّعُونَ مِنْ سِتِّينَ بَلَدًا تَقْرِيبًا. مِنْهُمْ بَحَّارُونَ، وَمُهَنْدِسُونَ، وَمُمَرِّضُونَ، وَمُعَلِّمُونَ، وَطَبَّاخُونَ. السَّيَّارَاتُ لَا تَدْخُلُ الْمِينَاءَ. لِذَلِكَ يَرْكَبُ الزُّوَّارُ حَافِلَاتٍ مِنْ مَوْقِفِ السَّيَّارَاتِ إِلَى السَّفِينَةِ. وَالْعَائِلَاتُ تَقِفُ فِي طَابُورٍ طَوِيلٍ. فَاطِمَةُ رَكِبَتْ إِحْدَى هَذِهِ الْحَافِلَاتِ مَعَ عَائِلَتِهَا. عُمْرُهَا اثْنَتَانِ وَعِشْرُونَ سَنَةً. تَقُولُ فَاطِمَةُ: رَأَيْنَا صُوَرَ السَّفِينَةِ عَلَى إِنْسْتَغْرَام. فَقَرَّرْنَا أَنْ نَذْهَبَ مَعًا، فَنَحْنُ نُحِبُّ الْقِرَاءَةَ. وَفَاطِمَةُ مُتَحَمِّسَةٌ، وَتُرِيدُ أَنْ تَرَى كُنُوزَ السَّفِينَةِ. فِي الْمَكْتَبَةِ كُتُبٌ لِكُلِّ الْأَعْمَارِ. فِيهَا كُتُبٌ لِلْأَطْفَالِ، وَكُتُبٌ عَنِ الطَّبِيعَةِ وَالْأَرْضِ. وَفِيهَا أَدَوَاتٌ مَدْرَسِيَّةٌ أَيْضًا. وَعَلَى السَّفِينَةِ أَنْشِطَةٌ: قِرَاءَةُ قِصَصٍ، وَكِتَابَةٌ، وَخَطٌّ. وَجَاءَ أَبٌ مَعَ أَوْلَادِهِ. يَقُولُ: جَاءَ أَوْلَادِي لِكُتُبِ الْأَطْفَالِ. وَلَكِنْ هُنَا كُتُبٌ لِلْجَمِيعِ، فَنَسْتَمْتِعُ كُلُّنَا مَعًا.
In Muscat’s port there is a big ship, called “Logos Hope”. On the ship there is a library, and it is the biggest floating library in the world. And it has more than five thousand books. Volunteers from about sixty countries work on the ship. Among them are sailors, engineers, nurses, teachers and cooks. Cars cannot go into the port. So the visitors take buses from the car park to the ship. And families stand in a long queue. Fatima took one of these buses with her family. She is twenty-two years old.
