A0 Arabic Reading Texts for Beginners

About these texts

A0 is the Nusoos starter stage: the first whole texts you read once you know the letters. It is the product’s own step before A1, not a CEFR level, and none of the levels here is a certificate. If you can sound out Arabic letters, even slowly, you are ready for these texts.

Each text is short and written in plain Modern Standard Arabic with the vowel marks in place. Sentences are simple, and the same words come back from line to line, so a second reading is easier than the first. The texts are small scenes from across the Arab world: the diamond-shaped bread of a Baghdad bakery in Iraqi Samoon Bread, sweet green tea shared with friends in Mauritanian Tea, and a winter kite day on the corniche in Kites over Jeddah.

Most texts can be heard read aloud: listen, tap any word for its meaning, then read the text again on your own. If the letters are still new, start with the Learn path, which leads from letters and syllables to first words.
