فِي مُورِيتَانْيَا، عَلَى شَاطِئِ الْبَحْرِ، مَكَانٌ اسْمُهُ «حَوْضُ آرْغِين». وَهُوَ مَحْمِيَّةٌ طَبِيعِيَّةٌ كَبِيرَةٌ، فِيهَا بَحْرٌ وَصَحْرَاءُ. وَمِسَاحَتُهُ مِثْلُ مِسَاحَةِ لُبْنَانَ. وَهُوَ جَنَّةُ الطُّيُورِ فِي غَرْبِ إِفْرِيقْيَا. فِي الشِّتَاءِ، تَعِيشُ هُنَا طُيُورٌ كَثِيرَةٌ جِدًّا: مَلَايِينُ الطُّيُورِ. وَيَأْتِي إِلَيْهِ تَقْرِيبًا مِئَتَا نَوْعٍ مِنَ الطُّيُورِ كُلَّ سَنَةٍ. فِي الصَّبَاحِ، تَطِيرُ الطُّيُورُ فَوْقَ الْمَاءِ، وَتَبْحَثُ عَنْ طَعَامٍ. وَبَعْضُهَا يَأْكُلُ السَّمَكَ، مِثْلَ الْبَجَعِ وَالْغَاقِ. وَيَعِيشُ هُنَا أَيْضًا شَعْبٌ صَغِيرٌ اسْمُهُ «الْإِيمْرَاغَن». هُمْ أَكْثَرُ مِنْ أَلْفِ رَجُلٍ وَامْرَأَةٍ. يَسْكُنُونَ فِي قُرًى صَغِيرَةٍ عَلَى الشَّاطِئِ، وَبُيُوتُهَا مِنَ الْخَشَبِ. وَمُنْذُ مِئَاتِ السِّنِينَ، يَعِيشُونَ مِنْ صَيْدِ السَّمَكِ بِالشِّبَاكِ. يَخْرُجُ الصَّيَّادُونَ إِلَى الْبَحْرِ فِي قَوَارِبَ لَهَا أَشْرِعَةٌ. وَعِنْدَمَا يَرَوْنَ سَمَكًا كَثِيرًا، يَقْفِزُونَ فِي الْمَاءِ. الْمَاءُ هُنَا لَيْسَ عَمِيقًا. يَحْمِلُ الصَّيَّادُ الشَّبَكَةَ عَلَى كَتِفِهِ، وَبَعْضُ الصَّيَّادِينَ صِغَارٌ جِدًّا. يَفْتَحُونَ الشَّبَكَةَ فِي الْمَاءِ، وَيُمْسِكُونَ السَّمَكَ فِي دَقَائِقَ. ثُمَّ يَرْجِعُونَ إِلَى الشَّاطِئِ بِالسَّمَكِ. وَلِلنِّسَاءِ عَمَلٌ أَيْضًا. تَشْتَرِي النِّسَاءُ السَّمَكَ الطَّازَجَ، ثُمَّ يُقَطِّعْنَهُ قِطَعًا صَغِيرَةً. وَيُجَفِّفْنَهُ فِي الْهَوَاءِ يَوْمَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ. وَالسُّيَّاحُ وَالْبَدْوُ يُحِبُّونَ هَذَا السَّمَكَ الْمُجَفَّفَ كَثِيرًا. وَالنَّاسُ هُنَا يَأْكُلُونَهُ مَعَ الزَّيْتِ.
