فِي السُّعُودِيَّةِ مَحْمِيَّةٌ كَبِيرَةٌ، وَلَهَا شَاطِئٌ عَلَى الْبَحْرِ الْأَحْمَرِ. طُولُ الشَّاطِئِ مِئَةٌ وَسَبْعُونَ كِيلُومِتْرًا. وَفِي مَاءِ الْمَحْمِيَّةِ خَمْسَةُ أَنْوَاعٍ مِنَ السَّلَاحِفِ الْبَحْرِيَّةِ، وَفِي الْعَالَمِ سَبْعَةُ أَنْوَاعٍ فَقَطْ. فَرِيقٌ مِنَ الْمَحْمِيَّةِ يُرَاقِبُ السَّلَاحِفَ فِي الْبَحْرِ وَعَلَى الشَّاطِئِ. وَيَحْمِي بَيْضَ السَّلَاحِفِ فِي الرَّمْلِ. قَبْلَ أَيَّامٍ، أَمْسَكَ خَبِيرَانِ عَشْرَ سَلَاحِفَ. سَبْعٌ مِنْهَا سَلَاحِفُ خَضْرَاءُ، وَثَلَاثٌ مِنْ نَوْعٍ آخَرَ. وَضَعَ الْفَرِيقُ عَلَى كُلِّ سُلَحْفَاةٍ جِهَازًا صَغِيرًا. الْجِهَازُ خَفِيفٌ، وَيَعْمَلُ سَنَةً كَامِلَةً عَلَى الْأَقَلِّ. وَهُوَ يُرْسِلُ إِلَى الْفَرِيقِ أَخْبَارَ السُّلَحْفَاةِ: أَيْنَ تَسْبَحُ، وَأَيْنَ تَأْكُلُ. وَاحِدَةٌ مِنَ السَّلَاحِفِ الْخَضْرَاءِ تَحْمِلُ بَيْضًا. يُرِيدُ الْفَرِيقُ أَنْ يَعْرِفَ أَيْنَ سَتَضَعُ بَيْضَهَا. وَبَعْدَ ذَلِكَ، سَيَحْمِي الْفَرِيقُ ذَلِكَ الْمَكَانَ. تَخْرُجُ السَّلَاحِفُ الصَّغِيرَةُ مِنَ الْبَيْضِ عَلَى الشَّاطِئِ، ثُمَّ تَذْهَبُ إِلَى الْبَحْرِ. وَتَسْبَحُ فِي الْبَحْرِ سَنَوَاتٍ طَوِيلَةً. وَبَعْدَ ثَلَاثِينَ سَنَةً تَقْرِيبًا، تَرْجِعُ إِلَى الشَّاطِئِ نَفْسِهِ لِتَضَعَ بَيْضَهَا.
In Saudi Arabia there is a big nature reserve, and it has a coast on the Red Sea. The coast is one hundred and seventy kilometres long. And in the reserve’s water there are five kinds of sea turtle; in the whole world there are only seven kinds. A team from the reserve watches the turtles in the sea and on the beach. And it protects the turtles’ eggs in the sand. A few days ago, two experts caught ten turtles. Seven of them are green turtles, and three are of another kind. The team put a small device on each turtle. The device is light, and it works for a whole year at least. And it sends the team news of the turtle: where it swims, and where it eats. One of the green turtles is carrying eggs. The team wants to know where it will lay its eggs. And after that, the team will protect that place. The baby turtles come out of the eggs on the beach, then they go to the sea. And they swim in the sea for many years. And after about thirty years, they come back to the same beach to lay thei
