وَرْدُ الْجَبَلِ الْأَخْضَرِ

الْجَبَلُ الْأَخْضَرُ مِنْطَقَةٌ فِي جِبَالِ الْحَجَرِ فِي عُمَانَ. وَفِيهِ قَرْيَةٌ قَدِيمَةٌ اسْمُهَا الْعَيْنُ. فِي الْقَرْيَةِ مَزَارِعُ وَرْدٍ، وَهِيَ مِثْلُ الدَّرَجِ عَلَى الْجَبَلِ. لَوْنُ الْوَرْدِ وَرْدِيٌّ، وَرَائِحَتُهُ جَمِيلَةٌ. وَاسْمُهُ هُنَاكَ «وَرْدُ الْجَبَلِ». وَفِي قُرًى أُخْرَى فِي الْجَبَلِ مَزَارِعُ وَرْدٍ أَيْضًا. يَقْطِفُ النَّاسُ الْوَرْدَ فِي الصَّبَاحِ الْبَاكِرِ. وَمَوْسِمُ الْقَطْفِ مِنْ وَسَطِ مَارِسَ إِلَى وَسَطِ مَايُو. وَالْعَائِلَاتُ هُنَا تُعَلِّمُ الصِّغَارَ هَذَا الْعَمَلَ. صَاحِبُ مَزْرَعَةٍ فِي الْقَرْيَةِ اسْمُهُ قَيْسٌ الْعَامِرِيُّ. مِنْ هَذَا الْوَرْدِ يَصْنَعُ قَيْسٌ مَاءَ الْوَرْدِ. عِنْدَهُ طَرِيقَةٌ قَدِيمَةٌ. فِي الطَّرِيقَةِ الْقَدِيمَةِ يَضَعُ أَوْرَاقَ الْوَرْدِ فِي فُرْنٍ مِنَ الطِّينِ. وَتَحْتَ الْفُرْنِ نَارٌ. فَيَصْعَدُ بُخَارٌ مِنْ أَوْرَاقِ الْوَرْدِ. وَفِي أَعْلَى الْفُرْنِ مَاءٌ بَارِدٌ. فَيَصِيرُ الْبُخَارُ مَاءَ وَرْدٍ. يَأْتِي ضُيُوفُ فُنْدُقٍ فِي الْجَبَلِ إِلَى مَزْرَعَةِ قَيْسٍ. يَمْشُونَ بَيْنَ الْوَرْدِ، وَيَزُورُونَ مَصْنَعَهُ الصَّغِيرَ. وَفِي الْمَصْنَعِ يَبِيعُ قَيْسٌ مَاءَ الْوَرْدِ. وَهَكَذَا يَصِيرُ وَرْدُ الْجَبَلِ مَاءَ وَرْدٍ، مِنَ الْمَزْرَعَةِ إِلَى الْمَصْنَعِ.

Al Jabal Al Akhdar is an area in the Hajar Mountains in Oman. In it there is an old village called Al Ayn. In the village there are rose farms, and they are like steps on the mountain. The roses are pink, and their scent is lovely. There they are called “ward al-jabal”, the mountain rose. Other villages on the mountain have rose farms too. People pick the roses early in the morning. The picking season runs from mid-March to mid-May. Families here teach this work to the young. The owner of a farm in the village is called Qais Al Amri. From these roses, Qais makes rose water. He has an old way. In the old way, he puts rose petals in an oven made of clay. And under the oven there is a fire. So steam rises from the rose petals. At the top of the oven there is cold water. So the steam turns into rose water. Guests of a hotel on the mountain come to Qais’s farm. They walk among the roses and visit his small factory.
