جُزُرُ الْقَمَرِ بَلَدٌ فِي الْمُحِيطِ الْهِنْدِيِّ، بَيْنَ إِفْرِيقِيَا وَمَدَغَشْقَرَ. وَمُوهِيلِي جَزِيرَةٌ صَغِيرَةٌ مِنْ جُزُرِ هَذَا الْبَلَدِ. فِيهَا شَوَاطِئُ جَمِيلَةٌ، وَبَحْرٌ أَزْرَقُ دَافِئٌ. وَفِي الْجَزِيرَةِ حَدِيقَةٌ وَطَنِيَّةٌ، تَحْمِي الْبَحْرَ وَالشَّوَاطِئَ. فَفِي مَائِهَا تَعِيشُ سَلَاحِفُ بَحْرِيَّةٌ، وَحِيتَانٌ كَبِيرَةٌ، وَأَبْقَارُ الْبَحْرِ. وَعَلَى سَاحِلِ الْجَزِيرَةِ قَرْيَةٌ صَغِيرَةٌ اسْمُهَا إِتْسَامِيَا. وَقُرْبَ الْقَرْيَةِ خَمْسَةُ شَوَاطِئَ. كُلَّ سَنَةٍ تَأْتِي آلَافُ السَّلَاحِفِ الْخَضْرَاءِ إِلَى هَذِهِ الشَّوَاطِئِ، لِكَيْ تَضَعَ بَيْضَهَا فِي الرَّمْلِ. وَهِيَ تَأْتِي فِي اللَّيْلِ عَادَةً. فَتَحْفِرُ حُفْرَةً فِي الرَّمْلِ، وَتَضَعُ فِيهَا الْبَيْضَ. وَبَعْدَ أَسَابِيعَ، تَخْرُجُ سَلَاحِفُ صَغِيرَةٌ مِنَ الْبَيْضِ، وَتَمْشِي إِلَى الْبَحْرِ. لَكِنْ فِي الْمَاضِي، كَانَ بَعْضُ النَّاسِ يَصْطَادُونَ السَّلَاحِفَ هُنَاكَ، لِكَيْ يَأْكُلُوا لَحْمَهَا. وَكَانُوا يَصْطَادُونَ عَشْرَ سَلَاحِفَ أَوْ أَكْثَرَ كُلَّ يَوْمٍ. فَقَرَّرَ أَهْلُ إِتْسَامِيَا أَنْ يَحْمُوا السَّلَاحِفَ. وَأَسَّسُوا فِي الْقَرْيَةِ جَمْعِيَّةً لِهَذَا الْعَمَلِ. وَفِي سَنَةِ ١٩٩١، مَنَعُوا الصَّيَّادِينَ مِنَ الْجُزُرِ الْأُخْرَى مِنْ دُخُولِ شَوَاطِئِهِمْ. وَبَعْدَ سَنَوَاتٍ قَلِيلَةٍ، صَارَ صَيْدُ السَّلَاحِفِ هُنَاكَ قَلِيلًا جِدًّا. وَفِي سَنَةِ ٢٠٠٢، فَازَتْ مُوهِيلِي بِجَائِزَةٍ دَوْلِيَّةٍ، لِأَنَّ أَهْلَهَا يَحْمُونَ طَبِيعَتَهُمْ. وَالْجَمْعِيَّةُ تَعْمَلُ مُنْذُ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ثَلَاثِينَ سَنَةً. وَالْيَوْمَ يَأْتِي سُيَّاحٌ إِلَى الْقَرْيَةِ، لِكَيْ يَرَوُا السَّلَاحِفَ. وَيَمْشِي مَعَهُمْ مُرْشِدٌ مِنَ الْقَرْيَةِ، لِكَيْ لَا يُخِيفُوا السَّلَاحِفَ. وَهَكَذَا يَجِدُ أَهْلُ الْقَرْيَةِ عَمَلًا وَمَالًا.
The Comoros is a country in the Indian Ocean, between Africa and Madagascar. And Mohéli is a small island of this country. It has beautiful beaches, and a warm blue sea. And on the island there is a national park, which protects the sea and the beaches. In its waters live sea turtles, big whales, and dugongs (sea cows). And on the island’s coast there is a small village called Itsamia. And near the village there are five beaches. Every year thousands of green turtles come to these beaches, to lay their eggs in the sand. And they usually come at night. They dig a hole in the sand, and lay the eggs in it. And after some weeks, little turtles come out of the eggs and walk to the sea. But in the past, some people hunted the turtles there, to eat their meat. And they used to catch ten turtles or more every day. So the people of Itsamia decided to protect the turtles. And they founded an association in the village for this work. And in 1991, they stopped hunters from the other islands fro
