هَذِهِ قِطَطُ الشَّوَارِعِ فِي طَنْجَةَ. تَهْتَمُّ بِهَا امْرَأَةٌ مِنَ الْمَدِينَةِ. هِيَ تُحِبُّ الْقِطَطَ جِدًّا. يُسَمِّيهَا النَّاسُ أُمَّ الْقِطَطِ. طَنْجَةُ مَدِينَةٌ فِي شَمَالِ الْمَغْرِبِ. بَيْتُ الْمَرْأَةِ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ الْقَدِيمَةِ. وَهُوَ فِي زُقَاقٍ ضَيِّقٍ. تَعِيشُ فِي بَيْتِهَا قِطَطٌ كَثِيرَةٌ. هِيَ تَأْخُذُ الْقِطَطَ الْمُصَابَةَ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ وَتُعَالِجُهَا. كُلَّ صَبَاحٍ تَخْرُجُ الْمَرْأَةُ مِنْ بَيْتِهَا. وَهِيَ تَجُرُّ عَرَبَةً صَغِيرَةً. فِي الْعَرَبَةِ طَعَامٌ لِلْقِطَطِ. تَمْشِي الْمَرْأَةُ فِي أَزِقَّةِ الْحَيِّ. وَتُعْطِي الطَّعَامَ لِقِطَطِ الشَّوَارِعِ. تَشْعُرُ الْقِطَطُ بِهَا مِنْ بَعِيدٍ. وَتَتْبَعُهَا قِطَطٌ كَثِيرَةٌ فِي الْأَزِقَّةِ. ثُمَّ تَرْجِعُ الْمَرْأَةُ إِلَى بَيْتِهَا. وَهِيَ سَعِيدَةٌ جِدًّا. تَأْكُلُ الْقِطَطُ الْأَرُزَّ وَالسَّمَكَ وَتَشْرَبُ الْحَلِيبَ. الْقِطَطُ مِثْلُ النَّاسِ فِي الطَّعَامِ. لِكُلِّ قِطٍّ طَعَامٌ مُفَضَّلٌ. تَشْتَرِي الْمَرْأَةُ الدَّوَاءَ لِلْقِطَطِ الْمَرِيضَةِ. هَذَا الْعَمَلُ يَحْتَاجُ إِلَى مَالٍ كَثِيرٍ. وَمَالُهَا قَلِيلٌ. يُسَاعِدُهَا ابْنُهَا وَبَعْضُ النَّاسِ. وَهِيَ تَطْلُبُ مِنْ كُلِّ النَّاسِ الِاهْتِمَامَ بِالْقِطَطِ.
These are street cats in Tangier. A woman from the city looks after them. She loves cats very much. People call her the Mother of Cats. Tangier is a city in the north of Morocco. The woman’s house is in the old city. And it is in a narrow alley. Many cats live in her house. She takes injured cats home and treats them. Every morning, the woman leaves her house. And she pulls a small cart. In the cart there is food for the cats. The woman walks through the alleys of the neighbourhood. And she gives the food to the street cats. The cats sense her from far away. And many cats follow her through the alleys. Then the woman goes back to her house. And she is very happy. The cats eat rice and fish, and they drink milk. Cats are like people when it comes to food. Every cat has a favourite food. The woman buys medicine for sick cats. This work needs a lot of money. And she has little money. Her son and some people help her. And she asks everyone to look after cats.
